The School Board approved:
- Resolution in honor of Mrs. Jessie Bryant Christophe who is the last living educator from the historic Hahnville Colored School.
- Proclamation declaring May as National Mental Health Awareness Month.
- Proclamation declaring May 6-12, 2024, as School Nurses’ Week.
- Technology Committee meeting minutes of March 15, Board committee meeting minutes of March 18, board meeting minutes of March 20, and Risk Management & Insurance Committee meeting minutes of April 10, 2024.
- Selection of Alliant Insurance Services as the excess workers compensation broker.
- Selection of Louisiana Insurance Services as the faithful performance bonds broker.
- Phases II and III of the Department Reorganization Plan at an approximate initial cost of $149,573.
- English Language Program staffing formula at a cost of $691,200.
- Mental health professional staffing formula at an approximate cost of $491,000.
- Student Health Services’ school nurses staffing formula at an approximate cost of $229,000.
- Receipt of personnel items.
- Second reading and adoption of Board Policy and Procedure 4.6.3c –Pre-Employment Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) Checks.

- Request for qualifications for an alcoholic beverage service provider.
- Bids for janitorial and paper supplies as recommended at an approximate cost of $910,654.63.
- Resolution authorizing the issuance of $20,000,000 of General Obligation School Bonds.
- One-time recruitment and retention payment of $2,000 for each full-time and permanent part-time employee (excluding the Superintendent) to be disbursed in October of 2024 at an approximate FY2025 cost of $4,446,000.
- Accounts payable for March 2024 totaling $5,961,461.
Recognition
- Hayden Harrell, an Allemands Elementary School student, is the K-2 Group ESS Art Contest Winner.
- Three Destrehan High School students were named to the All-District Bowling First Team.
- Beau Senior, a Destrehan High School student, was named the District Bowling Most Valuable Player.
- Three Hahnville High School students were named to an LHSAA All-Academic Composite Team.
- Four high school students were selected by the Louisiana Department of Education to represent the state in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
- Fifty-one high school students were named to the LMEA District VII Honor Choir.
- Twenty-seven high school students were named to the ACDA All-State Honor Choir.
- Fourteen high school students were named to the LMEA All-State Honor Choir.
- Hahnville High School Color Guard was named Louisiana/Mississippi Color Guard and Percussion Circuit Champions of the Scholastic Regional A River Division.
- Lakewood Elementary School Choir received the Sweepstakes Award at the District VII Large Ensemble Assessment.
- Lakewood Elementary School Fifth Grade Festival Band received the Sweepstakes Award at the District VII Instrumental Large Ensemble Assessment.
Superintendent’s Report
- Hahnville High School’s Graduation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, and Destrehan High School’s Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
- Destrehan High School’s Ring Night Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 6, and Hahnville High School’s Ring Night Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
- The annual Teacher Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 23.
- Students in Grades 3-8 will take the LEAP test on May 6-10, 2024.
- High school students enrolled in LEAP courses will take LEAP tests on May 8-10, 2024.
