MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:

On behalf of the St. Charles Parish School Board and Public School System, welcome to what will be an exciting and excellent 2024-2025 school year!

We hope you had a relaxing summer and are ready for the start of a new school year and all the opportunities it has to offer. If you are new, welcome to St. Charles Parish Public Schools where our mission is to develop empathetic, involved, productive, and responsible citizens by providing every student high-quality educational opportunities that empower each to become enthusiastic lifelong learners. We look forward to working with you in accomplishing this mission for every child.

There is no better feeling than the start of a new school year. Our summer was a busy one with staff participating in professional development, facilities readied for student and employee arrivals, and support services fine-tuned for the new school year.

The school board continues to make significant investments in our employees, safety and security, and facilities. Recent investments our board has made include:

• increasing employee compensation to remain among the highest and most competitive in Louisiana and the southern region

• improving our Safety and Security Enhancement Plan to include additional school resource officers, protective film covering for glass in various locations, enhanced cameras, and vaping detection devices to name a few

• modernizing, upgrading, and enhancing our buildings through an approximately $37 million bond issue in 2023 for a six-year facility upgrade plan, and

• upgrading and enhancing our PE and athletic facilities through an approximately $40 million investment of budget allocations for a six-year PE and Athletic Facility Plan.

Expect Excellence is more than just a motto; it's our steadfast pledge. We are "All In" for our students and staff, striving for excellence in everything we do and say. This commitment extends to our customer service and all aspects of our work because our stakeholders deserve nothing less. Thank you for entrusting us with the education and care of the students of St. Charles Parish. Here's to a fantastic first day and a productive school year ahead.

You and I...We are St. Charles Parish Public Schools

Dr. Ken Oertling
Superintendent

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

We are excited to share that all St. Charles Parish public school students will continue to receive free meals at school each day during the 2024-2025 school year. Each student will receive one healthy breakfast and one healthy lunch at no charge.

The school system has been granted approval through the Community Eligibility Provision by the United States Department of Agriculture to provide free meals. No further action is required by families to receive the free breakfast and lunch.

If students would like to purchase additional meals or servings, a meal payment system is available to make payments and check account balances either online or via phone. To register, please visit www.MySchoolBucks.com or call 1-855-832-5226. You will need your child’s student ID number which can be obtained from the school office or cafeteria.

Our cafeterias serve well-balanced, nourishing meals that meet federal regulations to promote increased consumption of fruits and vegetables for a healthier diet. If your child has any food allergies or religious food preferences, you are encouraged to complete a meal modification form. Menus and meal notification forms can be found at https://www.wearescpps.org/Page/725. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

BUS REGISTRATION & PARENT APP – WheresTheBus

St. Charles Parish Public Schools utilizes a mobile app called “WheresTheBus” to help students and families who take advantage of bus transportation.

Before downloading the app, families are asked to complete a bus registration for each new school year. A registration link and information can be found at WeAreSCPPS.org under the Departments Menu (select Transportation). When registering for the bus, you must provide the address that your child will use for bus service and complete a separate registration for each child in your household who will be utilizing SCPPS bus transportation.

The app uses GPS to track the precise location of your child's school bus in real time. By using this app on your phone, you will know if the bus is running late in the morning or afternoon. You will also know when the bus is approaching the bus stop and when the bus is on its way home.

The app is free for both Apple and Android devices and keeps your personal information secure.

TO SIGN UP:

1. Go to www.WheresTheBus.com.

2. Look for the “Parents” Section on the left, and click on the “Set Up Account” button.

3. Select St. Charles Parish Public Schools from the drop-down menu.

4. Enter parent and student Information.

5. Await further instructions via email once your information has been validated.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

School supply lists for elementary and middle schools can be found on each school’s website. High school supply lists vary by teacher; therefore, we recommend waiting to shop for high school supplies until you can confirm your child’s specific needs based upon his/her schedule.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FORMS

Back-to-school forms will be available to complete online through the PowerSchool parent portal. This process provides parents/guardians with an efficient, time-saving method to complete paperwork. The parent portal also allows parents/guardians to monitor school assignments, grades, attendance, and more throughout the school year.

If you do not have a portal account set up, please contact your child’s school or call St. Charles Parish Public Schools’ Helpdesk at (985) 785-3126 to set up your account.
