Our Learning Model

  • To be successful in a post-secondary environment, our team members will need to be strong in the area of Knowledge and Thinking, therefore we have developed course-specific and center-wide rubrics that act as Individual Assessments of Knowledge & Thinking (IAKT). IAKT is an important component of every project and a key part of strong project design as well as an essential component of building literacy skills across all content areas. Elective courses and projects can contribute to the overall aim of the College Readiness Assessment (CRA) by utilizing indicators and rubric language from the core content areas as appropriate. It is important to note that CRA performance is just one component of student readiness and a lack of CRA expectation does not diminish the importance of these classes in a team member's overall experience.

    Learner Outcomes

The Satellite Center has defined five research-based, learner outcomes that all Satellite Center team members shall exemplify by the end of the year. We will have achieved our mission when each team member at the Satellite Center is skilled in...

    • Knowledge & Thinking: The ability to reason, problem-solve, develop sound arguments or decisions, and create new ideas by using appropriate sources and applying the knowledge and skills of a discipline.
    • Collaboration: The ability to be a productive member of diverse teams through strong interpersonal communication, a commitment to shared success, leadership, and initiative
    • Agency: Why do some students work hard and engage in school, even in the face of academic or personal challenges, while others give up easily or are unwilling to try? Agency demonstrates the importance of reflecting on and developing a “growth mindset” as well as learning key academic skills correlated with positive academic and life outcomes as indicated in both research and our experience in the network.
    • Written Communication: The ability to communicate knowledge and thinking through writing
    • Oral Communication: The ability to communicate knowledge and thinking through effective oral presentations
