Assistive Technology
Assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment or product, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Assistive Technology Services are any services that directly assist an individual with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device.
Supporting Assistive Technology Needs of StudentsThe Special Education Department is committed to ensuring that students and educators have access to effective assistive technology resources and supports. We support the implementation of assistive technology by:
- Researching current and emerging assistive technology tools and resources.
- Maintaining an Assistive Technology Library where educators can explore and trial supports before determining the most appropriate and effective solutions for individual students.
- Providing ongoing professional learning opportunities to help staff effectively integrate assistive technology into instruction and student supports.
