Board Approves Renaming East Bank Head Start to M. M. Bethune Early Learning Center

The school board approved the renaming of East Bank Head Start in Destrehan to M. M. Bethune Early Learning Center at its meeting on February 25.

The renaming comes after careful study and thoughtful discussion by a district task force. The group was created to review the reasons for renaming the facility, research the feasibility of doing so, and make a recommendation to the superintendent. After reviewing the task force’s findings, the superintendent presented a formal recommendation to the board for consideration. The decision was guided by a goal to bring consistency to the naming of the district’s two early childhood facilities.
